Medicare for All: Healthcare as a Human Right

The system as it is now is designed for 2 things. To deny coverage and harvest our money. This leaves Hoosiers to either skip care, go bankrupt, or die. Medicare for all saves money on administration fee's, insurance premiums, as well as, gaining us large bargening power with service providers and pharmaceutical companies to lower costs further.

Indiana families are being crushed by a healthcare system built to maximize profits—not to keep people healthy. Too many Hoosiers delay treatment, skip prescriptions, ration insulin, or avoid doctor visits altogether because they simply can’t afford the cost. Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the United States, and even families with insurance face skyrocketing premiums, surprise bills, and confusing coverage rules that put corporate profits above human lives.

John Whetstone understands these struggles firsthand. Growing up in a working-class family, he witnessed how unexpected medical bills can derail a household, strain relationships, and push families deep into debt. No one should have to choose between paying for medication or paying for groceries. No parent should lie awake at night wondering how they’ll afford their child’s next doctor visit. And no one should be denied care because of their financial situation.

That’s why John strongly supports Medicare for All—a universal, single-payer system that guarantees healthcare to every American. Under this plan, every Hoosier would have access to comprehensive, affordable care, including primary care, mental health services, prescription medications, emergency care, and more—all without the fear of medical bankruptcy. Medicare for All eliminates premiums, copays, deductibles, and networks, replacing the current patchwork system with one simple, fair, and efficient program.

How Medicare for All Helps Indiana Families

Universal healthcare means fewer bankruptcies, lower prescription costs, and expanded access to preventive care that keeps families healthy instead of waiting until emergencies strike. It strengthens communities by reducing the financial strain on working parents, supports small businesses by removing the burden of providing expensive private insurance, and ensures that every Hoosier—no matter their income, job, or background—can see a doctor when they need to. John is committed to building a healthcare system that puts people first, saves families money, and creates a healthier, more secure future for all.
